Inexpensive Linux laptop

Was browsing Ebay and noticed you can get a Dell Latitude D630 for $100 to $160.  The Dell Latitude D630 is great for linux and might be a good inexpensive Linux laptop option for you.

When buying a used laptop I look at CPU speed, battery capacity and that the screen is in good condition. I would buy from a seller that has measured the battery capacity.  Ram is inexpensive for the older laptops but if it has 2+GB of memory I probably wouldn’t upgrade. I usually plan on putting a new Hard Drive in them because you never know the history of the Hard Drive in it and its not worth losing your data.

The Hard Drive can be replaced from $50 to $100 depending on how large of a drive you need.

The Dell Latitude D630 can support up to 8GB of ram. 8GB is a little over kill and will probably cost you more then the laptop does but a 4GB kit can be found for about $50.

For around $250 you can have a good preforming linux laptop at the fraction of the cost of buying new.
